How to effectively remove dead skin cells from the surface of our skin?

Dead skin is aged skin that accumulates on the surface as our skin continuously renews itself by producing new cells. Dead skin causes a rough and pale appearance. If we...

There are several methods for removing dead skin. Among the most useful methods is the application of peels suitable for the skin type. Chemical peels, cleansing gels, cleansing foams, cleansing tools, scrubs, and various serums also remove dead skin from the surface, but the most effective among these will be the peels.

What is Dead Skin?

Our skin is composed of multiple layers of keratinized cells that are produced in different layers of our skin and then migrate towards the surface, undergoing shape and structural changes. Upon reaching the surface, they become anucleated, flatten out, and die, but new cells are always produced in their place. The human body loses between 30,000 and 40,000 epithelial cells daily. The exfoliation process does not always go perfectly, and if this process does not proceed properly, dead skin can accumulate, leading to dull, flaky peeling, clogged pores, dehydration, and keratin buildup.

What are the symptoms of keratinized skin?

The outermost layer, within the epidermis, is the stratum corneum, which consists of the aforementioned dead skin cells.

Symptoms:

Dry; flaky skin

Itchy,

Thick; rough skin,

Dehydrated, or even lacking in fat

Common are blackheads, clogged pores, acne, milia

How does it develop?

Our skin consists of 3 main layers: subcutaneous tissue, dermis, and epidermis. The latter is the outermost layer, where cells are produced. The epidermis is composed of different layers, where cells undergo numerous changes. If any process is disrupted, it can easily lead to improper cell division, with cells detaching too early or too late, or even nucleated cells reaching the skin surface.

Can it be harmful to our skin?

The accumulated cells can clog the pores, thicken the epidermis, hinder skin respiration, and make inflammation and blackheads more likely. Bacteria can also proliferate more easily, leading to the development of acne and inflamed skin.

How can the formation of dead skin be prevented?

Removing dead skin cells from the skin is essential for a clear and radiant complexion. Here’s what you need to do to get rid of dead skin cells on your skin:

1: Determining your skin type is important to understand the deficiencies and needs of your skin. It also influences product selection. Therefore, you should first identify your skin type.

2: Your skincare routine should include products that are suitable for your skin type and remove dead skin from the surface.

3: Peeling, masks, cleansing gels, moisturizers, sunscreens, and serums should be included in the routine.

4: The pore-tightening facial cleansing gel removes dead skin cells from the skin while opening the pores.

These skincare products should be applied to clean and healthy skin. If there are open wounds or infections on the skin, or if we are dealing with atopic, sensitive skin, the skin should be treated with suitable products and methods.

Chemical peels

The purpose of chemical peels is the rapid and effective removal of keratinized cells. There are products that dissolve only dead keratin, and there are those that also affect healthy skin. They effectively combat the signs of aging, are effective for pigmentation spots, acne scars, and are perfect if you want smooth, beautifully radiant skin. There are several types of chemical exfoliants:

1: AHA: alpha-hydroxy acid: These exfoliating acids target the aforementioned problems. They have a photosensitizing effect, so the use of sun protection is mandatory; therefore, their use is rather recommended in the evening routine.

2: BHA: beta-hydroxy acid: These acids exfoliate by penetrating the pores, fighting against the formation of blackheads, and cleansing them, thus achieving a more beautiful and clearer skin. These acids do not cause photosensitivity, so they can be used regardless of the time of day!

When using both acids, the skin must be gradually accustomed to them, as they can cause irritation! They assist the skin's self-regeneration process and improve skin respiration. The Maruderm exfoliating serums make the skin radiant and effectively remove dead skin cells.
